The Story So Far
Designing, crafting, building... my first passion. It started with Lego, all sharp corners, not today's Lego, the 1980's Lego with it's 2 - 4 - 6 - 8 size choices in bricks of loud jarring colours. I left school to start my apprenticeship, my Swiss teacher had forced himself into the high end of town working for architects and builders of reputation. A one man - one apprentice shop, it was hectic, confusing and often fascinating. Sadly my apprenticeship matured to its natural end, as did the job, he retired, the business closed.
Fast forward 30 years of working in anything but Cabinetmaking, i still had too eat, i couldn't find the right work for me, i am not the kind to just bash out mind numbing kitchen after kitchen, the boredom. The coals just needed that small whispering breath, i have space, permanence, time. What i thought was skill perished, was skill in hibernation... hammer, chisel, plane and square fit back into my hands like a long dry river receiving the first rain in what feels like a millennia. My son seems to like building things as well.

Reclaimed, Reused and Recycled
In 2017 the old Western Stores building on Orange's main street was closed and subsequently demolished to make way for a new development. The buildings frame was constructed using enormous Victorian Ash beams from trees felled in the 1860's and 1870's. We managed to obtain a small selection of the timber beams which has been used in some our recent furniture projects.
To ensure we are not wasting any of this small piece of Orange's history, we are proud to make our Victorian Ash Bottle Opener and share this hand made gift or Fathers Day gift as a small piece of local history with you.
